Pregnancy week 1
Trimester 1 · Baby is about not yet conceived — this week is counted from your last period
Pregnancy is dated from the first day of your last period, so conception has not happened yet. Your body is shedding the uterine lining and preparing a fresh one.
How your body may feel
- • Normal period bleeding and cramping.
- • Hormones are resetting for a new cycle.
- • No pregnancy symptoms are expected yet.
Self-care this week
- • Start or continue folic acid 400 micrograms daily.
- • Note the first day of this period — it sets your due date.
- • Avoid alcohol and tobacco if you are trying to conceive.
Milestone
Day one of your cycle is the start of pregnancy dating.

- • Heavy bleeding, or bleeding with clots
